No wind was forecast but it was looking a bit breezy in the morning. T'was a gorgeous day as well, so was thinking as I was walking into uni a sail today would be a big bonus. The Lee weather station was reporting 14 knots NW for most of the early afternoon so that was that - off to Hillhead again.

It wasn't looking good though on the way there - the windy trees by the motorway and roads to Hillhead were looking worryingly docile. And indeed they were right - t'was pretty much flat calm when I arrived at Meon. Still, absolutely perfect weather so a good day to chill on the beach for a bit. Which I did. Wind did seem to be picking up a fraction though as I was enjoying the gorgeous weather with the fellow beach plebs, and then I saw a guy out on formula kit absolutely maxed, so thought sod it I'm here now might as well rig up the big kit and give it a go.

First run out was a blob. Tried to tack, fell in, expected to have to blob back and call it session over, BUT...hello...what's going on here...waterstarted no probs and got planing straight away! That convinced me to make a proper session of it. Unfortunately the wind didn't stay - t'was always up and down, and only got a few fully planing runs in. Pulled off a couple of nice planing-entry tacks on the inside in front of the crowds on the beach. Didn't feel comfortable with the set-up whilst blasting - felt like I was riding very tail heavy - something was wrong, but couldn't work out what. Maybe it was just that I had rigged the 7.4 on the full side. At the end tried moving the mastfoot forwards but that didn't help - couldn't get planing. Not the most exciting of sessions, and got tired of all the blobbing around after a while, but I did enjoy it more than I would have expected. Had a few good planing runs and transitions, no trouble staying upwind despite being big-time underpowered (think there must have been a current dragging me upwind all the time), and t'was great to be out in my shorty in such gorgeous weather. Left the water in a satisfied mood.
